McNeilus Introduces Pacific Series Ultra; New Lightweight Front Loader Refuse Vehicle

Innovative design engineered to maximize payload capacity and durability.

The McNeilus® Pacific Series® Ultra front loader refuse truck showcases several new technologies and engineering enhancements that reduce weight without sacrificing durability.

DODGE CENTER, Minn. (April 29, 2014) – McNeilus Companies, Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) company, today displayed the Pacific Series® Ultra Front Loader refuse truck at Waste Expo booth #2441 in Atlanta, Ga. The new body showcases several advanced technologies and engineering enhancements that reduce weight without sacrificing durability.

“The new Pacific Series Ultra reflects values that are synonymous with lightweight durability, and it showcases several innovations designed to enhance reliability and performance,” said Brad Nelson, Oshkosh Corporation senior vice president and president of the Commercial business segment. “Through thousands of engineering hours – and with the assistance of customer focus groups and on-the-route testing – we’ve created a front loader that weights less but is built to take on challenging routes.”

The Pacific Series Ultra body is built to meet federal bridge payload requirements up to a maximum gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 57,500 pounds. It features a portfolio of tested and proven advances in materials and design, and is covered by multiple newly issued patents. The slanted mid-post channels deliver enhanced durability, while the redesigned ejector track and shoes reduce torque on its structure.

The slanted rear post optimizes body capacity, while the rounded hopper floor and body floor increase strength, minimize bracing, and while reducing weight. A new ejector system further reduces weight, and the available axle scales (shown on an in-cab display) are integrated into the control system to regulate GVW, save wear-and-tear, and conserve fuel.

The Ultra’s aluminum canopy provides better coverage, has a lift-able nose for cab clearance, and reduces weight while channeling liquids into the hopper. A new, non-sliding and locking tailgate features improved harness routing and a full height seal. Providing further significant weight reduction, the Ultra’s redesigned head frame redistributes stress and allows the packer to retract farther forward for more hopper space.

“We expect the Ultra to get a very close look from customers around the country,” added Nelson. “We’ve left no stone unturned in our drive to build a lightweight front loader that meets the needs and expectations of refuse haulers large and small.”

The McNeilus Pacific Series Ultra comes to market with a 40-cubic yard body capacity, and on a variety of chassis options. It is also available in a wide range of McNeilus CNG configurations.
